What makes me Happy?

Writer's picture: Allison MurphyAllison Murphy

After my brain decided to do the electric slide without my permission, I figured it was time for a system reboot. Turns out, I've got a ton of things to be grateful for! Sure, life loves to throw me curveballs and set up obstacle courses, but it's also packed with love and laughter. When I kicked off my blog, I ranted about the top ten things that drive me up the wall. Spoiler alert: they still do! But hey, they give you a sneak peek into my whirlwind world. So, in the spirit of giving my brain a vacation, I'm shifting gears to focus on the good stuff, the simpler joys in my life.

In the coming weeks, I will talk about ten things in no particular order that make me happy.

  1. Being heard and listened to

  2. Feeling valued

  3. Creating memories

  4. Feeling loved and appreciated

  5. Being remembered

  6. Making an impact

  7. Laughing out loud

  8. When dreams come true

  9. The magic of animals

  10. Living my best life

I'm thrilled to spill the beans on my life stories and give you a peek into my world. Since this is just the intro, I'll toss in some quirky February fun facts. Did you know that besides being American Heart Health and Black History Month, today is National Handcuff Day? Yep, back in 1912, on February 20th, George A. Carney got a patent for a snazzy new handcuff design. It was so snazzy, in fact, that law enforcement worldwide said, "We'll take it!" and it became the go-to wrist bling for keeping folks in line.

Additionally, February is:

National Bird Feeding Month is celebrated in February to encourage people to provide food and shelter for wild birds. 1994 Congressman John Porter (R-IL) proclaimed February National Bird Feeding Month.

History of National Canned Food Month. Back in 1987, the Canned Food Information Council decided to make February National Canned Food Month. They wanted to clear up the myth that canned food isn't as nutritious as fresh stuff.

National Comfy Day.“The Comfy Bros” founded National Comfy Day to be celebrated on February 20th, the day The Comfy was invented! Their story starts in 2017 when Michael and Brian Speciale transformed how the world stays warm by inventing the world's first true wearable blanket.

February is like a party month where Congress and Cupid get their kicks! It's packed with quirky days to celebrate, so why not join the gazillion folks who can't quite spell February thanks to that pesky “r”? And while you're at it, splurge on valentines like they're going out of style. Relax and munch your way through National Snack Month as you eagerly await my next masterpiece, The View From My Wheelchair.
